Compensation: $18.25 to $20 per hour

Reports to: Store Team Leader / Manager

Gizuá Market is looking for friendly, reliable and hardworking Retail Team Members to join our team.This is a hands-on customer service role supporting all areas of the store, including retail sales, stocking, merchandising, cashier duties, cleaning and basic food preparation. We are looking for people who enjoy working with customers, take pride in keeping a store clean and well organized, and are willing to contribute wherever help is needed.

The Role
As a Retail Team Member, you will help provide a welcoming and positive experience for customers while supporting the day-to-day operation of Gizuá Market. This is a varied role. During a typical shift, you may serve customers at the till, restock shelves, receive deliveries, prepare grab-and-go food items, clean work areas and help make sure the store is ready for customers.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, helpful service.
• Assist customers with questions and help them locate products.
• Respond to routine customer concerns and refer more complex issues to the Team Leader or manager.
• Help create a respectful, welcoming and positive environment for customers and coworkers.

 Retail and Store Operations

• Operate the point-of-sale system and process customer purchases accurately.
• Handle cash, debit and credit transactions in accordance with store procedures.
• Stock shelves, coolers, displays and promotional areas.
• Ensure products are properly faced, priced and presented.
• Receive and organize incoming merchandise and deliveries.
• Rotate stock and monitor product expiry dates.
• Assist with inventory counts and stock checks.
• Help identify low-stock items and report replenishment needs.
• Maintain clean, safe and organized sales, storage and staff areas.
• Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.

  Food Preparation and Food Service

• Assist with the preparation of simple fresh, hot, grab-and-go and ready-to-eat food items.
• Follow established recipes, preparation instructions and portion sizes.
• Package, label and display prepared food products.
• Follow safe food-handling, storage and sanitation practices.
• Check product dates and support proper stock rotation.
• Maintain clean food-preparation surfaces, equipment and utensils.
• Complete required cleaning and food-safety tasks.
• Help monitor food quality and presentation.
• Support waste reduction by following proper preparation and storage procedures.

 Health and Safety

• Follow established health, safety and food-safety procedures.
• Maintain clean and sanitary work areas.
• Report hazards, incidents or unsafe conditions promptly.
• Use equipment safely and in accordance with training.
• Follow all Gizuá Market and yáqʷa policies and procedures.

• Previous retail, grocery, convenience-store, hospitality, restaurant or customer-service experience is considered an asset but is not essential.
• FOODSAFE Level 1 certification, or another recognized food-safety certification, is considered an asset.
• Basic food-preparation or kitchen experience is also considered an asset.
• Knowledge of the Haisla community and local area is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements

 This is an active position that may require employees to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, reach and perform repetitive tasks.
• Safely lift and move merchandise, food products and supplies.
• Work in refrigerated, storage and food-preparation areas.
• Perform regular cleaning and stocking duties.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work a retail schedule, which may include:

• Days
• Evenings
• Weekends
• Statutory holidays
