Consulting opportunity | Closes Friday, November 6th, 2026
yáqʷa Development Corporation, the economic development corporation of Haisla Nation, is seeking expressions of interest from experienced HR generalists or consulting firms to provide ongoing, practical human resources support to our team and business operations.
This is a consultancy engagement, not a staff position. We are looking for someone who can work closely with managers, offer sound advice and support with implementation of straightforward, consistent HR practices in place.
What the work involves
The scope will be shaped by operational needs and may include:
- Providing day-to-day HR advice to managers, including employee relations, workplace concerns, performance matters and difficult conversations.
- Helping with recruitment, selection, employment agreements, onboarding and other matters.
- Reviewing and improving HR policies, procedures, templates and employee documentation, with attention to BC employment requirements.
- Supporting performance reviews, staff development, supervisor coaching and training needs.
- Advising on sensitive personnel issues where appropriate.
- Helping maintain organised employee records and consistent HR processes across our businesses.
Who we are looking for
Experience working with Indigenous-owned businesses is essential. Applicants should understand the practical realities of operating commercial businesses within a First Nation economic development environment, including the relationship between business needs and community priorities.
You should also bring strong generalist HR experience, sound knowledge of British Columbia employment legislation, good judgement, discretion and the confidence to advise managers on both routine and sensitive matters. A CPHR designation would be an asset, but relevant experience matters most.
Location and travel
Our preference is for a consultant or firm based in Northwest British Columbia. We will also consider applicants based in Vancouver or Calgary, where direct flights to Terrace make regular travel practical.
The consultant must be able and willing to travel to Kitimat when requested. The amount and timing of travel will depend on operational needs and will be agreed in advance wherever possible.
Preference
Preference will be given to qualified Haisla Nation members and Indigenous-owned consulting businesses that meet the requirements of the engagement.
How to express interest
Please send a brief submission outlining your relevant experience, particularly with Nation-owned businesses, your approach to providing HR support, your availability and your ability to travel to Kitimat. Please include your résumé or company profile and your proposed hourly or daily consulting rates, along with any retainer options and expected travel charges.
